My coffee date with the D.O.E. ☕️
I met with incredible activists from Louisiana, and spoke in support of Roishetta Ozane, James Hiatt, and Travis Dardar‘s fight to stop CP2 & further LNG buildouts in their communities.
On November 30th, I joined with incredible activists from Louisiana to deliver the Stop CP2 petition signatures to the Department of Energy in DC. Finally, I connected with Roishetta Oshane, founder of the Vessel Project in Louisiana. I was thrilled to attend and honored to stand with community members to support the fight to stop unnecessary LNG buildouts in an already over-polluted and delicate area of the Louisiana coast.
We gathered there to call on the Department of Energy to deny the permits for CP2 requested by Venture Global. We were greeted by a rather grumpy head of D.O.E. security and a K-9 team. A police van sat parked on the corner, watching our press conference.
As I watched the K-9 unit sniff my bag and coffee cup, I thought, “I wonder if the D.O.E. greets oil companies this way.” Probably not. We did not allow their attempts at intimidation to sway us. The energy among the speakers and organizers was light, and many laughed together as we prepared to speak.
Roishetta Sibley Ozane
Roishetta, a single mom of six, is an extraordinary activist from Louisiana. I was honored to stand with her in this fight to halt LNG build-outs in her community.
James Hiatt
James, director of For a Better Bayou, spoke passionately about the grim realities of living in Cancer Alley.
Travis Dardar
Travis, an Indigenous Fisherman living in Cameron Parish, where Venture Global plans to build CP2, came to DC to protect the fishing grounds already damaged from oil and gas pollution.
My first press conference
I am honored to have been invited to join these spectacular people speaking out against oil and gas development. I condemned the Biden administration for approving the willow project earlier this year and warned them not to fail Louisiana the same way.
Confronting Venture Global
After delivering the petition signatures to the D.O.E., we took our banners to the Virginia offices of Venture Global. Attempts to set up a formal meeting were made but ultimately ignored by Venture Global, but we were determined to be heard.

We saw what we assume were Venture Global reps in the lobby who sent the receptionist to speak with us. They would not come out themselves to speak. Instead, they chose to call the police to have the officer handle us. The officer was polite and acknowledged we were well within our rights.
(Footage of us at Venture Global begins about a minute into this video)

Overall, I am elated to have been invited to join these incredible activists. I hope you all will join me in supporting their frontline work. Follow them on social media, amplify their posts, and show them all of the love in their comment section. Thank you to everyone who has supported me on my journey to hold the oil industry accountable on so many different fronts. We really are coming from all directions.
