Follow up thoughts on my trip to help my dad with the ceremony for the Lost Alaskans project.

I took the weekend off to let my brain wind down after the travel. I’ve been going through the videos and photos, and it’s unfortunate how much of my audio was ruined by the wind. I did talk to my dad today. He was making pancakes while we spoke on the phone, and he was pleased to hear how many folks are supporting videos.

Something both beautiful and haunting is happening in my comment sections. The videos are beginning to reach descendants, and they are sharing stories with me. I have permission to share some of it with you. I am compiling the screenshots and the rest of my thoughts for my next video.

I am also reaching a whole new audience who are unfamiliar with the history of Indian boarding schools and where the current legislation stands for the US Truth & Healing Commission legislation. Folks have some questions about how they can be most helpful, which is music to my ears! I will have two videos with resources ready for folks to get started as soon as possible!

I was honored to be invited to the Ceremony, and I took notes during the strategy meeting that followed on how we can proceed with this work. I am certainly hitting the ground running and have quite a task getting the general public up to speed, but I know our community has got this.
