Things are getting intense for a lot of reasons. DC has been a mess with the debt ceiling approval, and it appears there is something for everyone to be angry about.
The main thing I hear people from my side of the internet being loudest about: is the Mountain Valley Pipeline project approval. But more specifically, the way the project was protected from public challenge and fast-tracked for production. In my opinion, this reveals a lot. Lawmakers (and their donors) are now fully aware they have lost broad public support for new fossil fuel projects. We had to anticipate a fossil fuel industry response to the rise in demand for climate action coming not only from the US but around the world. In the wake of the response to the Stop Willow campaign becoming so vast so quickly. Politically, the numbers are just not what they used to be for candidates who support fossil fuel projects.
The political landscape is also changing quickly, Ron Desantis’ campaign launch on Twitter was botched, and Trump is looking at having more charges than voters here soon. Lauren Boebert was caught lying about why she didn't vote on the debt ceiling, and Marjorie Taylor Greene is pissing everyone off on both sides of the aisle (ok so that’s not really new) . The Tennessee anti-Drag bill was deemed unconstitutional by a Trump-appointed Judge, and a Utah School district banned the bible for being *checks notes*… “inappropriate for children.” Well, that was a sentence that I am simultaneously relieved and in shock to have written. This is not to say that we are out of the woods by any means, there are many pixels that make up the picture and other aspects that remain at play. As a follower commented on one of my videos “The 2024 election perpetually feels one week away” and I felt that comment at my core.
On the other hand, we have the ICWA decision which very well may be a week away… or several. We have no real way of knowing unless we have another SCOTUS leak. But the online community has continued to share the information and take actions like signing petitions, we are also seeing consistent and supportive media coverage by large news outlets. I aim to flood the airwaves with support for ICWA.
In other news… I had a few stickers go viral on the internet again. 😅 we will call it… group crafting? The internet exploded with adoration for Orcas when the news came out about a particular orca who had been damaging or tipping boats for a few years, appeared to be teaching the behavior to her pod mates, and they were going after boats and yachts as a group. The internet immediately gave their approval, and dubbed her “Queen Gladis” (Gladis is the name for orcas who are “a problem”) So… I made a sticker:
There was another design that got made when Underthedesknews tagged me in on a request for merch based on a story they covered about when Ted Cruz had to defend an arguably silly law. So we had lots of fun with stickers last week!
And finally in honor of Pride month 2023:
I am consistently underestimating how busy I am going to be every week. And I have a feeling this will be the theme for the rest of the year.
