US bishops do not want to be subpoenaed π
U.S. Catholic bishops are attempting to involve themselves with the boarding school investigations.
Recently, I found reporting on a letter sent to Congress members addressing the Truth and Healing legislation currently being considered. The USCCB had two accommodations they asked for to have βa seatβ in the Truth and Healing Commission and to have the subpoena power removed from the bill.
These were my immediate thoughts on the matter:
In summary, this ask from the US bishops is entirely inappropriate. They are among the groups being investigated, they SHOULD NOT get to be involved with the investigation. And for the bishops to ask for the subpoena power to be removed⦠might as well have been an admission of guilt as far as I am concerned.
This letter was sent to Congress about two weeks before the second volume of the Indian boarding school report was released. And many states are holding their own investigations and releasing findings.
